This is a single sided Whetstone (Toishi) with 5000 grit, a good whetstone for finishing a knifes edge or prior to a #8000 grit finish. This fine grit whetstone is used when finishing dulled edges or after a medium whetstone has already been used.
The Shapton sharpening stones are great for working on double bevel western style blades.
