Sale price$26.00

For premium Japanese cutlery, sharpening is not merely maintenance—it is an art form that honors the original blacksmith's intent. Our Traditional Whetstone Sharpening Service is explicitly designed for high-performance, hard-alloy steels (such as SG2, and high-carbon steels) that demand the meticulous care of water stones. Handled by the technical masters at Seattle Edge, this service coaxes out a mirror-polished, surgically sharp edge that restores your blade's exquisite cutting geometry and maximizes smooth refinement.

Simply select your blade length variant from the menu above to begin your blade’s restoration.

The Master's Touch: 100% Freehand Whetstone Expertise

Your high-end knives are never subjected to automated machines, harsh dry grinding wheels, or rigid mechanical jigs. Instead, every blade is hand-honed completely freehand on premium water stones by master artisans with over 20 years of professional sharpening experience.

By utilizing manual whetstones and relying entirely on muscle memory and master-level intuition, Seattle Edge delivers an unmatched level of care for two critical reasons:

  • Bespoke Bevel Customization: Every knife possesses a unique geometry, steel composition, and hardness requiring a distinct technique. Decades of experience allow Albert to read the subtle nuances of your specific blade, identifying and applying the exact, tailored angle it demands. This process is remarkably rewarding for advanced steels like SG2, producing a mirror-polished finish that highlights the delicate shiosai tides of the blade.
  • Structural Blade Optimization: Freehand manipulation on water stones grants the fluid freedom to modify not just the micro-bevel of the edge, but the overall design and profile of the blade. This precise, heat-free control prevents any degradation of the steel’s original heat treatment, ensuring exceptionally precise bevels and clean, flawless edges.

⚠️ Important Service Exclusions

To ensure your knife receives the exact treatment it requires, please review the following exclusions before selecting your variant:

  • Single-Bevel Cutlery: Traditional Japanese knives ground on only one side (such as a Yanagiba, Deba, or Usuba) feature asymmetric geometry that requires specialized technical resetting. Please select our Single-Bevel Artisan Sharpening Service.
  • Damage & Structural Repair: This service is strictly for edge maintenance and dull blades. If your knife has significant edge chips, deep cracks, or a broken tip, please select our dedicated Chip Repair or Tip Repair restoration options.

·       Pre-Service Evaluation: If our master sharpener determines that your blade requires advanced restoration (such as structural chip or tip repair) to safely achieve a proper edge, we will pause the service and contact you directly with an updated estimate before any work begins. No additional work will be performed or charged without your explicit consent.
