A High-Performance Petty with Japanese Heritage

Premium SG2 steel, Sakai craftsmanship, and the distinctive Ittosai Kotetsu mark come together in a refined Japanese knife made for precision work.

Precision, Craftsmanship, and Japanese Heritage

The Takahashi Kusu SG2 Petty Knife is a refined Japanese utility knife made for cooks who appreciate precision, excellent edge performance, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Handcrafted in Sakai, Osaka, one of Japan's most renowned centers of knife making, this 150mm petty combines high-performance SG2 powdered steel with a beautifully finished oak handle.

With its slim 1mm blade and excellent balance, it is designed to feel precise and agile in the hand—making everyday detail work effortless.

Premium SG2 Powdered Steel

At the heart of this knife is Super Gold 2 (SG2), a high-performance powdered stainless steel known for its excellent edge retention, wear resistance, and ability to take a very fine edge.

With a hardness of approximately 64 HRC, the blade offers long-lasting sharpness while remaining stainless and relatively low-maintenance compared with traditional carbon-steel knives.

For cooks who value a knife that stays sharp through frequent use, SG2 is an excellent choice.

The Ittosai Kotetsu Mark

The blade is engraved “Ittosai Kotetsu,” meaning “Kotetsu's knife,” in honor of the famous Kotetsu swordsmith of the Edo period.

Knives bearing this mark are among Takahashi Kusu's highest-ranked knives, adding a distinctive connection to Japanese blade-making history.

Crafted in Sakai, Osaka

Takahashi Kusu is based in Sakai, Osaka, a city with a centuries-old tradition of Japanese knife making.

Founded in 1917, Takahashi Kusu has spent more than a century manufacturing and wholesaling Japanese cutlery. Now in its fourth generation, the company continues to serve as a bridge between skilled makers and the cooks who use their knives.

This heritage is part of what makes the knife special: it is not simply a high-performance kitchen tool, but a piece of contemporary Japanese knife-making tradition.

A Versatile Everyday Petty

At 150mm (5.9"), this Petty knife is an exceptionally useful size for detailed kitchen work.

Use it for:

  • Slicing fruits and vegetables
