Double sided Japanese Whetstone (Toishi) with Base - Combination Grit 800 and 6000

Double sided Japanese Whetstone (Toishi) with base
Combination Grit 800 (Red side) and 6000 (White side)
The Japanese Whetstone (Toishi) manufacturer Matsunaga with the brand name King from Osaka Japan. They are the oldest and best-known Toishi maker of Japan.
This is a double sided Whetstone (Toishi) with Combination Grit 800 and 6000 which is medium (red side) and  finishing (white side). Medium side is for a middle sharpening point after using the rough grinding stone.  This will decrease the grinding pattern on the metal after a rough stone. A finishing whetstone is used when creating minor adjustments to the cutting edge. Since the polishing power is weak, use it after grinding with a medium whetstone.

Please read before use:
1.Soak in water the whetstone ONLY MEDIUM side about 3 minutes before use. DO NOT soak in water finishing (white side) side!
2. While using the whetstone, add little water on the surface as needed.
3.After use, let the whetstone dry very well. Otherwise, the whetstone might be crack or mold. Put it into the plastic case once finished.

Weight: 753 g
Whetstone Length: 185 mm
Whetstone Width: 63 mm
Whetstone Thickness: 25 mm

Excellent water sharpening stone

I bought this dual-sided water sharpening stone because all my various sharpening stones are out-of-the-country and not accessible to me; I needed a minimalist and simple solution for sharpening kitchen and utility knives better than the typical kitchen store gizmos. This set absolutely met my expectations, at what seems like a very reasonable price - it allows me to take pride in the sharpening process.

Sharp like brand new!

I didn't want to ruin my favorite Santoku knife, so I practiced with my old kitchen knives first. Now all of my knives are very sharp like brand new! It takes practice but works amazingly well!

Nicely made stone.

Nicely made, but I have yet to master it. Practice, practice, practice…. The supporting jig helps a lot. In all honesty, the knives stay sharp and haven’t needed more then a simple touch up.
