I had to spend some time with a fine sharping stone to smooth out the burrs on the back edge of the blade. The biggest problem was the burr was going under the handle around the pivot area making the blade hard to open and most likely eating away at the brass. Also the little pivot lever was ground off center so I had to file it back for the blade to open freely. All of these issues could have easily been corrected in a few seconds on a fine sanding belt before assembly.
Now to the blade. Blade is brittle. My guess is it was heat treated to be too hard. The blade edge chipped when sharpening on my Fallkniven Sapphire ceramic stone. Had to go to my 500 & 2000 grit Shapton ceramic stones to get rid of the chipping and get a descent paper cutting edge.
I like the knife in my collection from a historical perspective. Will I carry and use it…probably not. The flipper lever sticking out would probably poke a hole in my pocket pretty quickly. It could be a good letter opener and conversation piece on my desk. I’m keeping it but probably won’t buy another.
